Gusher not spill:

“Meanwhile, government scientists said Thursday that the undersea gusher was spewing oil at a rate of 12,000 to 19,000 barrels a day, more than twice the 5,000-barrel estimate given by BP.

The government had two different teams of scientists estimate the rate of flow using two different methods, U.S. Geological Survey Director Marcia McNutt said.

Also Thursday, sources said that Minerals Management Service Director Elizabeth Birnbaum has been fired.

A senior Obama administration official said an official announcement will be made during the president’s news conference scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The decision to fire Birnbaum comes after a recently released report highlighting what many observers have characterized as widespread corruption at the Minerals Management Service, which is part of the Interior Department.”

This morning prediction # 5 became true:

Title: Obama says US government in charge, not BP

“Associated Press Tags : Barack Obama, oil spill, BP Posted: Fri May 28 2010, 10:16 hrs Washington:

President Barack Obama fought back critics of his administration’s handling of the spewing oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, declaring today they “don’t know the facts”.

He emphasised that his government, not oil company BP, is in charge.

Calling the unprecedented spill a “tremendous catastrophe,” Obama also said that the US government does not have the technology to deal with the damaged oil well nearly a mile (1.6 kilometers) below the surface, meaning that Washington must rely on BP — under federal direction – to plug the spewing well.

Obama also said he took full responsibility for ending the flow of oil and cleaning up the damage. “I take responsibility. It is my job,” Obama said.

Saying he woke each morning and fell asleep each night thinking about the environmental tragedy.

“This speaks to the question of how we are caring for the incredible bounty” of the United States, Obama said.

Prediction #4 true now?

http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/05/29/us.gulf.oil.spill/index.html?hpt=T1&iref=BN1

Venice, Louisiana (CNN) — BP’s “top kill” attempt to stop the flow of oil from a ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico failed, the company’s chief operating officer said Saturday.

The oil giant has tried for days to stop the the largest oil spill in U.S. history by pumping heavy, mudlike drilling fluid into a ruptured oil well, a method known as “top kill.”

may 31st
Yes, indeed. They tried the top kill and when they stopped pumping the oil gushed out with all the mud they had pumped in, so they tried again and pumped more and failed again. Now they decided that “top kill” wont work.

june 2nd

To make matters worse, the dispersant used by BP seems toxic and could evaporate into toxic clouds and fall as rain on land possibly poisoning land life forms (insects, plants, people?)
